Performers in the Early Modern Age


Kabuki and Noh Farce were created and developed by the discriminated-against people. Until the time when Japan was modernized (in the Meiji Era which began in 1868), performers had been placed in the discriminated-against class and marginalized in society. The people depicted in the folding screens were performers of acrobatics.
