Reality of Buraku Discrimination in Japan

History, Situation, Challenge

The "All Romance" Struggle (1951)

After the war, the Buraku liberation movement mainly focused on negotiating with government authorities. The Buraku liberation movement challenged the responsibility of local governments by accusing a story written by a temporary worker of Kyoto City Hall of being discriminatory. This photo shows one of the Buraku communities in Kyoto City in the early 1950's that was described in the story carried in a magazine "All Romance".
